From Our Founder
Necessity is the mother of invention. When the need for something becomes imperative, you are forced to find ways of getting or achieving it. Back in 2004, there was a need for a golf community we were proud to be affiliated with.
Back then, there were for-profit communities motivated by greed that myself, ourmoderators, and many of the members of GolfWRX became disenchanted with. We needed a club (an online club) where we could go and feel proud to be part of. A place where we could learn and share with no bias or agenda.That’s why this site was created.
You might find this rather odd but… The tipping point for me was when I found a driver (a Cleveland Comp 460) that I believed was better than the others, and I began to write reviews about the driver on one of my favorite communities. I spent countless hours every week contributing in the forums of this site, and supported it for many years. My threads wereessentially squashed, being pushed off to a dark place where no one would look for them.I reposted the threads, but the same thing happened. The driver I thought was so special was not being soldby the site, so the sitecould not profit from my findings. Myopinion was not welcome.
It was clear I was in the wrong place, and I needed to find a new outlet that wasn’t motivated by profit. GolfWRX was started because such an outlet didn’t exist, and since the beginning it has beena place where golfers canlearn, share, and discuss theirthoughts with other golfers.
What’s unique about GolfWRX is that ourowners have day jobs and careers, and for that reason we’re not dependent on site revenue for our livelihoods. And to date, all profit made byGolfWRXhas gladly been reinvested to make the sitebetter for the members.
Do we sell equipment or work with equipment companies?
We’ve expanded from our roots ofgolf equipment discussion, and now there’s almost nothing you can’t learn aboutgolf on GolfWRX. Other than a limited amount of GolfWRX Branded Merchandise, however, werefuse to sell golf equipment, as we fear doing so would lead to distrust among our readership and could distract us from our mission.
We do work with golf equipment companies, though — some big and some small. To provide our readers with the best access and information, we at times have to workclosely withthose sources. Does that mean we slant our editorial?Absolutely not. Our Editorial Team prides itself on itsobjectivity and in-depth reporting, and is purposely independent from our sales and marketing teams.
Do we remove photos from our forums?
When copyrighted material is posted in our forums prior to embargo, both large and small companies have at times asked us to remove it, and we have done so in cases where the material wasobtained illegally. This is not true for the photos we capture on the PGA Tour, however, as the action on PGA Tourranges is considered “fair game.”
Again, myself and many others didn’t dedicate 14 years of our time tothis site to make money. GolfWRX is notas mucha business as it is a sacred place we havebuilt for golfers. And it always will be, first and foremost, a place for us and other golfers to hang out.
