Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (2024)

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. is an indie point-and-click fangame developed by Mixlas, inspired by Scott Cawthon's Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. The game serves as a fan-made sequel, introducing the next generation who'll lead the lumber company, Mike Chop, carries on the family legacy while being guided by his father, Tyke Chop.

Only a year after the release of Baby's Nightmare Circus, the first official teaser for Tyke and Sons would be revealed on Mixlas' DeviantArt account. However, after only two teasers released, the release of Baby's Nightmare Circus Bike Fighter would release. Despite the game shadowing the teasing of Tyke and Sons, hints of Chipper were found as an unlockable prize. After the third teaser, a fangame dedicated to animatronic versions of the cast of Chipper & Sons was expected, however on July 11, 2019, a trailer for the game alongside its GameJolt page was revealed. Three months later, the game released.

The plot of Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. follows the future of Tyke Chop, the previous protagonist during Chipper & Lumber Co. It is detailed that, like the first game suggested, Tyke and Lisa became lovers and eventually had their own offspring, Mike Chop. Following an unexpected disappearance of Chipper, Tyke's father and deuteragonist of his titular game, Tyke took the role as the person who'd officially introduce his son to the lumber business.

Plot[]

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. acts as a fanmade sequel following the events of Chipper and Sons Lumber Co.

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (1)

In the previous installment of Chipper and Sons, Chipper mentored his son Tyke Chop in the art of managing and running their family's lumber company, ensuring the legacy of their business would live on. As players progress through the game, Tyke forms an alliance with Chipper's long-standing enemies, the Termites, gaining the trust of the King Termite and gaining access to the blueprints of the Robo-Termite. This mechanism is used to destroy Father Tree, an entity born from one of Chipper's many failed ideas. After a long day of work, Chipper would often schedule Tyke for a date. The ending of Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. sees Tyke meeting a new female beaver who later makes an appearance inside Tyke and Sons Lumber Co.

Opening the campaign Tyke and Sons Lumber Co., a sequence depicting the events following Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. is shown. The cutscene reveals that Tyke's romantic encounter with the female beaver, revealed to be named "Lisa", was a success, and the two eventually had their first child, Mike Chop, into their family. As Mike grew up, Chipper suddenly vanished, leaving his grandson without the opportunity to seek guidance from his grandfather. Despite his disappearance, the Beaver family had hope, not believing he was dead. Eventually, Tyke rebranded his fathers company into "Tyke & Sons Lumber Co."

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (2)

Following the opening cutscene, the player is treated to another cinematic sequence featuring Tyke Chop, now an adult, sharing a impactful moment with his son Mike. Tyke reveals that it's time for Mike to venture out into the world, just as he did when he was a young beaver. As Mike takes full liability over the company, Tyke entrusts him with the responsibility of becoming the next great successor of their family's lumber company.

Tyke promises to keep a watchful eye on Mike, stating he is a a professional. However, he also warns Mike not to become complacent, as he knows that Chipper's legacy remains unmatched.

Mike is provided a Walkie-Talkie in case he ventures too far from the house. Tyke instructs Mike to explore around the company property before venturing off into the real world. Additionally, Tyke tasks Mike with planting trees next to their family home. However, he asks Mike to be mindful of their limited land space and not to be careless with their property.

Gameplay[]

Day Segments[]

  • Want to see an in-depth guide into each day? See: Category:Tyke and Sons Lumber Co: Days.

The gameplay of Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. is divided into two distinct segments. The Day segment is reminiscent of the classic Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. gameplay. Throughout the world, interactable spaces are open for Mike to place whatever he pleases.

The player is presented with two main options to do with these empty spaces: Plant and Build. The Plant option allows the player to plant Wood trees, which grow through five distinct phases. The player can either wait an extended period for the tree to grow naturally or use the Watering Can to accelerate the process. As the tree grows, it undergoes a visual transformation, with each phase marked by a change in sprite. Once the tree reaches its fourth phase, it becomes ready to be cut down. However, the player can choose to continue watering the tree, earning the fifth and final phase, a mature Wood tree.

The second option, Build, presents Mike with the ability to craft a variety of buildings that aid him in collecting items. While items collected from buildings can be manually be found from Mud Monsters, buildings will sent items straight to the players Mailbox. In addition to collecting items, players can also purchase items from various stores and sell them to NPCs, which can be used to build more advanced and sophisticated buildings.

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (3)

The player can build various buildings such as the Chipomat bots, which can be crafted to chop down various types of wood. Other buildings, such as Palm Trees and Rock Farm, allow players to grind other items that are essential for crafting better buildings. Some items cannot be obtained without a building to produce them.

From Day 2 onwards, the player will have the freedom to explore the Island. As they venture throughout the Island and discover new landmarks, they will encounter a boss. These bosses vary from failed ideas of Tyke, who now view the lumber industry as a greedy monopoly that exploits nature for their own gain to artifically-created entities designed to challenge Mike Chop. In these Boss Fights, the player must dodge a series of launched projectiles while using your Watering Can, or in unique cases, a provided weapon, to damage the boss.

Night Segments[]

  • Want to see an explanation into each night? See: Category:Tyke and Sons Lumber Co: Nights.

The nighttime segments of Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. stands out as a distinct feature of the game, in contrast to Chipper and Sons Lumber Co., which only included Date Night segments featuring ironic dialogue between Tyke's date, who disturbed him. As the player acquires more bots, they will be integrated into the Night sequences. It is impossible to avoid crafting the animatronics as the bots are required to progress with the campaign. Furthermore, alongside the Chipomat bots, some of Tyke's abandoned ideas will reappear in the game, now depicted as damaged bots that have come out of hiding to hunt down the new generation of the Beaver family.

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (4)

There are three main features throughout the night. The Windows, Front Door, and Bedroom. When moving towards the left or right window, the player will need to shine the Flashlight towards the Office in order to view the figure on the other side of the window. Additionally, the Front Door may occupy one, or potentially, two animatronics on each individual side of the window. Finally, the Bedroom must be interacted with in order to stop the night. The game runs on a system where the player must earn Sleep Insurance in order to sleep. This feature requires the player to counter a set number of animatronics in order to have enough insurance to sleep. One animatronic, in specific, will attempt to stop the player from sleeping after earning enough insurance.

Additionally, the Flashlight which the player uses runs on a limited Battery supply. Upon the Flashlight running out of power, the player must run back towards the Bedroom and grab a new set of batteries.

Animatronics[]

The Chipomat 1.0, Chipomat 2.0, and Chipomat 3.0 bots will all attempt to breach the cabin through the windows. Their presence is marked by a knocking sound, prompting the player to investigate the left or right window. Once the bot is located, the player must close the curtain on it for a few seconds. While the Chipomat bots are a relatively easy source of Sleep Insurance , it's not always guaranteed that the player will receive this reward. This is also true for other animatronics that may appear in the game.

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (5)

Summercrab, who activates on Night 2, is the first of Seabill's creations to hunt down Mike. With Summercrab's debut, the door becomes a viable option for Mike to run towards by clicking on it. Unlike the three Chipomat bots, Summercrab does not have any sound cues to prompt the player to run to the door, so it's recommended to frequently check the door. If Summercrab is seen approaching the left or right door, quickly flashing the light on both windows rapidly can be used to counter her.

Seabilly will be introduced on Night 3. With his presence, a new mechanic that involves turning off the lamp lights will be alerted to the player. Upon hearing Seabilly's voice, you have a decent amount of time to check the windows and front door before Seabilly reaches your doorstep. The time it takes Seabilly to walk to and from the door is dependent on how quickly you turned off the lamp. Turning off the lights initiates a sequence where Seabilly walks past the door after peering into the window. Failing to turn off the lights will lead to a jumpscare.

Additionally, on Night 3, Phantom Chipomat will activate. He has a unique mechanic where he has a chance to jumpscare Mike whenever the lamp in the Living Room is off. Unlike other jumpscares, this one doesn't result in death, but instead steals half of your flashlight battery life. The only way to avoid his jumpscare is to keep the lights on.

Tyke and Sons Lumber Co. (6)

Killtimer will be introduced on Night 4. Unlike many characters, Killtimber has two unique mechanics. His first mechanic is shared with Summercrab, requiring the player to rapidly flash both windows if he is at the doorstep. His alternative triggers once the player has a sleep insurance meter is between 5-8. At this point, a message warning the player that something entered Mike's bedroom. When walking into the Bedroom, Killtimber will sit on Mike's bed, preventing the player from simply sleeping following a full sleep insurance meter. To deal with Killtimber, you must use your flashlight to flash him, then quickly exit before re-entering the bedroom. This action will stun Killtimber, causing him to leave the room. If you take too long to re-enter the room, Killtimber will return. Remaining in the room with Killtimber for an extended period will result in a jumpscare.
