US humanitarian aid pier off Gaza to halt shipments for 3rd time in a month
The U.S. military is planning to suspend operations of its pier off Gaza on Friday, temporarily moving the floating structure to an Israeli port to ride out high seas and rough waves expected to hit the region in coming days, according to an official familiar with the plans. It's the third time in a month that the structure halted operations due to weather and is the latest setback for the ambitious $230 million humanitarian project involving 1,000 US troops. Complicating the matter is that humanitarian aid that has been transported ashore via the pier is being held at a nearby facility after the U.N. suspended deliveries last week due to security concerns.

Former LA sheriff's deputy goes missing during hike on Greek island
A search and rescue operation is underway for a 59-year-old American who was reported missing Tuesday after failing to return from a hike on a Greek island. Albert Calibet, a former Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy, failed to return from a hike on the Greek island Amorgos amid extreme heat, with temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Calibet reportedly began his hike at 7 a.m. local time on Tuesday and was last seen at 11 a.m. by walkers he met with on a trail, according to Hellenic Police.

Most of the wholesalers, small- and medium-sized businesses that draw a significant portion of their revenue from Bud Light, said they remain weakened by the decline in sales and uncertain about when, if ever, the brand will fully recover. The owner of an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler in the Northeast, whose child is trans, told ABC News they have taken a 30% pay cut to make up for the losses and are considering retirement.

Nearly a year after wildfires devastated Maui and displaced many of its residents, Charles Nahale is still searching for a permanent place to call home. Nahale is one of the more than 1,300 fire victims who find themselves enrolled in FEMA's Direct Lease program, which aims to convert short-term rental units into long-term housing for up to two years for fire survivors, but has been fraught with challenges. FEMA has allocated $197 million to three companies, none of which are based in Hawaii, to administer the Direct Lease program.

One of the natural wonders of the world facing threats from climate change may have gotten a fleeting reprieve as a result of extra moisture over the past couple of years. Populations of the iconic Joshua tree may be showing signs of recovery after several rounds of atmospheric rivers inundated the West Coast -- including California's Mojave and Colorado deserts -- with record amounts of precipitation over the past year and a half, experts told ABC News. The extra precipitation allow the adult trees to better handle the heat due to the additional soil moisture, and there is more likelihood that the younger trees will survive the driest and hottest months, Cummings told ABC News.

Texas man charged with threatening federal agent: ‘Guns will come out'
A Texas man was charged with making threats to an FBI agent, according to information provided by the Justice Department on Thursday. Timothy Muller, 43, of Fort Worth, is alleged to have called an FBI Special Agent and left a threatening voicemail, followed up by subsequent text messages threatening the agent and his family, officials said in a release. "You can run, but you can't [expletive] hide," he allegedly said in a June 11 voicemail.

8-year-old girl dies after medical emergency aboard flight to Chicago: Coroner
An 8-year-old girl died after suffering a medical emergency aboard a flight to Chicago Thursday morning, which was rerouted to land in Peoria, Illinois, officials said. The child was transferred to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, despite emergency personnel performing life-saving measures, Peoria County Coroner's Office said in a statement. The coroner's office said the child, who they identified as 8-year-old Sydney Weston from Carl Junction, Missouri, was traveling with her family on vacation when she "suddenly became ill and then unresponsive in flight."

While experts and advocacy groups applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's decision Thursday to not restrict nationwide access to the abortion pill mifepristone, they warn access to medication abortion remains at risk -- as does the very foundation of the Food and Drug Administration's regulation of all medications. The court unanimously struck down a lawsuit seeking to restrict nationwide access to mifepristone, one of the two pills used in an abortion medication regimen. The court ruled that a group of doctors have no grounds to bring the lawsuit that sought to roll back the FDA's approval of mifepristone.

Earliest-ever heat wave in Greece closes Acropolis and public schools
A sweltering heat wave in Greece, recorded as the season's earliest-ever, has prompted authorities to close public schools, limit outdoor attractions and release safety alerts. Primary schools and kindergartens closed Wednesday and Thursday in areas of Greece where temperatures sustained heat wave levels and soared well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (exceeding 40 degrees Celsius) across the country, according to officials. The Greek Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry sent out a notice about the heat, and the decisions were made with the regional authorities and the municipalities.

Pentagon downplays Russian warships arriving in Cuba
The Pentagon is downplaying Wednesday's arrival of four Russian Navy ships in Cuba as U.S. officials acknowledge that U.S. Navy ships "actively monitored" the Russian ships as they made their way to a port of call in Havana. New study shows up to 43% of US households are not storing guns securely
Firearms are the leading cause of death in the United States for children aged 0-19 years, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting over 4,700 pediatric gun-related deaths in 2021. Up to 43% of households store loaded guns, which is not considered safe, while half of the households that store guns loaded with ammunition do not put them in locked containers, according to the study. Households from eight states were surveyed for this high-quality report; including Alaska, California, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio and Oklahoma.

Biden, Zelenskyy sign new 10-year security agreement
President Joe Biden touted on Thursday several new major U.S. commitments for Ukraine that were announced this week, including a 10-year bilateral security agreement, sanctions to disrupt Russia's war machine, and a sign-off from the G7 on a $50 billion loan backed by frozen Russian assets. Biden, in during a press conference in Italy with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the collective efforts by the G7 show that Russian President Vladimir Putin "cannot wait us out, he cannot divide us, and we'll be with Ukraine until they prevail this war." On the bilateral agreement, Biden said the goal is to "strengthen Ukraine's credible defense and deterrence capabilities for the long term."

On a Saturday in May, Sam Teusch said he and his wife and their four children had gone to a family favorite spot in Indianapolis, where they played ping pong and ring toss and other games together. The next day, May 5, Teusch said they had a normal Sunday morning, with him cooking a homemade breakfast and the kids playing video games together. When his youngest son, 10-year-old Sammy, wanted pancakes for breakfast, Teusch said he and one of his 13-year-old twin sons drove to a nearby store to pick up an ingredient they needed.
