That is exactly what he has found, there are a couple of small differences in the way that the UI works, but basically it is just Win10 in new clothes.

Yes and I am not that way inclined and winced at having to buy a comp with Win11 on, but no probs here. But on the other hand my neighbours had it installed on theirs and I don't think it may have been installed properly as probs.......

Yip, I preferred Win 7. There will come a point where the software you want no longer supports it.
Being one who likes to pull computers apart I steered clear of the all in ones as I imagine it's not so easy to swap parts between machines.

Lenovo? How is it going? I had a Lenovo desktop for a short time. Very slow. I donated it overseas far away from me.
I think sometimes children see what is stealing our attention from them. "This is coming between me and him. This has to go"

I foolishly updated a Toshiba lappy with Win10 and it was as clunky as at the outset, but with a bit of use and by keeping up with those bloody updates it now runs like a clock ... I suspect a lot of the issues can be PEBKAC related lol ... the only APP on it that I use and like is the weather APP lol

I have returned from several errands in town and am enjoying a cup of tea from one of my very pretty cups for a treat. Looks so nice sitting there on its saucer.

@Jin1017 - you'll appreciate this: little children in class, being asked to match pairs of objects such as knife-and-fork, shoes-and-socks, table-and-chair, looked blank when asked to match cup with saucer, because there were only mugs in their world... The world had moved on from the curriculum.

Bloody computers, someone tried to talk me out of buying an all in one that I wanted as he claimed that they were unreliable, but I thought the all in ones are nice, tidy and compact in about 2011, so I ignored them and bought an HP Omni 27 ... and here I am tapping away on it, reliable, plenty fast enough for what I do, and still running windows 7 because I prefer it over anything that followed. I have a lappy that was running windows 8 and didn't mind that at all, but foolishly loaded Win 10 onto it and can't go back! ... turkey, I should have known better as I already have another lappy with Windows10 on it, and still much prefer Win7

If you didn't like windows 10 don't try windows 11. Hate it...would like to go back to 10.

Windows 11 on this laptop, seems fine, I don't mess with it.

Windows 7 on the old laptop which I have turned-on most days - recent problem: can't seem to connect to Outlook for email, won't load.

Baffled.

The PC is about 7 years old and Win 11 works fine as it does on the newish laptops.

I don't have a problem with Win11, but having downloaded Office 21 on the laptop for a good price, I had to install Microsoft Picture Manager from an old disc.

I have the PC set up with programmes etc. on the 'C' drive and all data on the 'F' drive. The critical thing with any data is having backups. If you don't back up data/pics etc. regularly, sooner or later you'll wish you had! I have most non-picture files (Excel, Word etc.) in DropBox and all pics backed up regularly onto external hard drives.

At least with DropBox, you can find the previous version which I had to do last night. Somehow or other an Excel file from a few weeks ago had lost all data. At least I managed to restore it.

Do you mean the web based version of outlook (formerly hotmail) or their software program that you purchase and install on your comp?

OK that's good to hear. The one I had was slow doing anything. I gave up gaming years ago. Lenovo is an IBM product by the way.

While we're talking computers etc, is there a brand of computer you technophiles recommend. Just for general everyday stuff, no great capacity needed (if that's the right word)

Try this ...

  1. Select Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options.
  2. Select the General tab, and then select Delete under Browsing history.
  3. Select Delete all > Yes > OK.

Probably the problem, your cache is a temp file that allows quick access to previous pages in its history, it can get over loaded or corrupted and create the type of issue that you are having ... I'm picking that clearing the cache will solve your problem ... good luck lol

The defrost water from the heat pump froze on the path back to the outside unit ... it was a whisker chilly alright lol

But it was a beautiful day and I shot out wearing my Sunday's best (that's how you get over hump-day Wednesday) I think it was some chitta-chattar we had here at NZI concerning woman in public flaunting their candy so to speak. So I decided to flaunt my mid-life-self and did very well with a smile for an oozing weapon... Lol I turned heads in both genders too.

It was also a serious day for me too, plus there was a little of what could of been stressful, and I am one computer down.

Computers are largely unbranded if it's desktops we are talking about. To a large degree parts are interchangeable between machines. This is due to a choice made by IBM when it first introduced the personal computer called open architecture. It means you could buy an IBM computer and upgrade it with parts from other manufacturers. Or you could buy an IBM compatible computer and that would behave just like an IBM and run the same software. So that's why we have all these different brands that can all run Windows. At the same time, it seems to me, this was why we often got computer problems, the "blue screen of death" which used to be quite common on old versions of Windows.

Apple, on the other hand, went their own way, with their own operating system. They are more expensive new but well respected, and well loved by those who buy them. As I understand it they have moved towards the "IBM compatible" type in recent times in that there are parts you can install inside that work in other desktops. Graphic cards for example.

So maybe Apple is the answer for a more expensive but good solid option. There would be a little bit of a learning curve but many familiar applications are released with an apple version, and email or internet based applications would work just the same. Bu tI don't really know as I've never owned or even used one.

So far as unbranded desktops go it's more about who sold it to you and what their support is going to be like.
Dell seem to be good. Lots of big businesses use them.
