I can't tell you how loud, loud it was, as I was never around to hear it or see it.

Now we know, publically, how much asbestos remediation costs in the year 2020 for a large steam locomotive in a park setting. $179,000 (with a city-approved cap of $185,000) is a lot of money for any community to come up with for an old steam locomotive--and asbestos removal is just the beginning! When TRAINS Magazine Editor "worries about the fate of hundreds of park locomotives" around North America, perhaps he can get together with Wasatch Railroad Contractors and do an informative story in TRAINS about what asbestos removal and cosmetic restoration of steam locomotives REALLY costs today. And while Jim is at it, he can add Gary Bensman to the conversation--over the past few years, Gary has done a lot of work, very professionally, at Steamtown NHS; he's given the NPS a good boiler assessment on each boiler as is "visually possible". Hopefully, Wasatch will be able to do a good "visual" of #5631, too. It wasn't too long ago that "Friends of 261" was talking about a possible second steam locomotive, and a CB&Q 4-6-4 or 4-8-4 were possible candidates. We can dream, can't we? Frederick G. Bailey

Some locals say the 1522's exhaust still echoes through the Ozark mountains even to this day.

From what I've seen the 5600s were well cared for by the Q, wouldn't be surprised if the locomotive wasn't a candidate for a resto.

Jim Boyd was on Rolla Hill feeding the chiggers and he said that engine was loud enough to wake the cremated. LOUD

Which one are you asking about? The Burlington O5 class or the Frisco 1500 class?

That is a darn impressive financial commitment for a community of around 18,000 people.
